What the Feck?

Stephan Feck and the most embarrassing dive of the London Games | Fourth-Place Medal – Yahoo! Sports.

Yesterday, German diver Stephan Feck performed what is being lauded as the worst dive in Olympic history. And I couldn’t feel worse for him.

Feck made history with a dive that saw his legs come apart, his body contort and his mid-back absorb the impact as he made a loud “splat” in the Aquatics Centre. Needless to say, he came in last and was eliminated from the competition.

Apparently, the clip of Feck’s dive has gone viral, so now he has the added pleasure of being ridiculed by people across the globe. It’s not enough that he likely embarrassed himself and may even be questioning his worth as an athlete.

Please take it easy on Mr. Feck and remember the one universal truth that connects us all: we all make mistakes.

Most of us are just lucky enough not to do so on the world stage. Chin up, Stephan!

  1. His place in sports history is secured, just like that ski jumper from Wide World of Sports, a la ‘the agony of defeat.’ He’ll be the agony of ‘da plante.’

  2. It is such a shame for Stephan Feck. To practice all year and work hard everyday and dream of earning the medal only to have this happen to you. I hope he embraces every other part of his life and realizes what he has. I think things like this happen to make people realize what they have in life.

    • I completely agree, St. Dismas. And as bad as I feel for him, I also hope this makes him stronger. He’s a good person, so I’m confident he’ll move past it in a positive way.

Thanks for the great comments! :)
