Snowboarding star Shaun White charged with intoxication, vandalism.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist and sixteen-time X Games gold medalist Shaun White got busted at a Nashville hotel Sunday morning and was later charged with public intoxication and vandalism.

I’m a sucker for stories about superstars who fall from grace, even though this may not qualify. We all do dumb shit from time to time, and Shaun is no exception. I seriously doubt any of this will ruin his image. Hell, it might actually improve it.

It appears that the red-haired wonder went to Nashville for a friend’s wedding, tied one on (to say the least) and started wreaking havoc. He pulled a fire alarm, broke a telephone, bumped into another guest, fell and hit his head.

Wow. Sounds like a pretty productive night to me.

Shaun will be in court on October 10 to handle this, but you can’t beat the free publicity. He already has a minor “bad boy” image, so this will definitely up his street cred. In the article linked above, for instance, White is even referred to as a “rock star” living a “Hollywood lifestyle.”

How could this not help his image?

Sure, Shaun likely would have preferred a more positive story, but I can say one thing for certain: it got his name back in the papers.

Now that I think about it, could this have been staged? It would be quite the shrewd PR move…
