Flying with crying babies just got easier
A young couple about to take their first flight with twin newborns decided to be proactive and considerate of their fellow passengers. Before the flight, they distributed goody bags to everyone on the plane that contained some candy, an offer for free earplugs (in case the children cried) and the following note:
“Hello! We’re twin baby boys on our first flight and we’re only 14 weeks old! We’ll try to be on our best behavior, but we’d like to apologize in advance just in case we lose our cool, get scared or our ears hurt. Our mom and dad (AKA our portable milk machine and our diaper changer) have ear plugs available if you need them. We are all sitting in 20E and 20F if you want to come by to get a pair. We hope you have a great flight!”
Of course, one passenger couldn’t simply smile and say “thank you.” Instead, they said,Ā “This is considerate, but aren’t we all adults who can understand that babies are prone to bouts of crying?”
Yes, many of us are adults, but it’s always nice when someone goes out of their way for their fellow man. And personally, I thought this was a very nice and refreshing gesture. Therefore, I will end with what could be my catch phrase of 2012:
Be good to each other.

It does make it easier to deal with stuff like this when people do wonderful things like this.
You got that right, LordByrum. And I wish more people did things like this…
What a fantastic idea. š I love it.
I thought so too, Rebecca. Glad to see there are still some nice folks out there. š
Wow. That is ridiculously awesome of the parents to do. Very few parents these days realize how an apology or even an apologetic glance can drastically improve the moral on a plane/bus/metro when their child is screaming bloody murder. I am thoroughly impressed with this gesture!
Me too, Natalie! And thanks for the wonderful comments! š
Really enjoyed this.Wish there were more people like them.Wonderful parents,Awesome people. You’d think all the other passengers would appreciate it.One of them must have been a real deadhead.
Sounds like it to me, doglady. It was a very nice gesture. to be sure. š
If people, in general, had more compassion and understanding, parents wouldn’t have to do things like this to travel with their children. I go out of my way to make the airline aware of problems my kids may have prior to the flight. My daughter, having autism, swings her feet when she’s nervous and HAS to be able to stand up periodically or she has problems with stimming. Calling ahead, we always get bulkhead seating and they notify the crew, which makes boarding and handling the kids during the flight much easier. Seems we all need more courtesy and compassion these days.
You’re absolutely right about that, Notes. And I commend you on being so responsible and courteous when you fly, too! š
To be perfectly honest, I do it more for the comfort of my children than to be courteous to the other passengers. The airlines accommodate us to be courteous to the other passengers. They certainly don’t want my daughter kicking someone’s seat for the duration of a 5 hour non-stop flight hehe
I’m sure you’re right, Notes. LOL
